The Southern African Customs Union (SACU) has adopted a Vision and Mission statement and a new Work Programme for promoting sustainable development and deeper integration within the SACU region. The SACU Secretariat hereby invites suitably qualified and experienced citizens of the SACU Member States to submit their applications for the following positions.

Job Title For the Position:

Trade Data Analyst (Ref: TDA)

Main Purpose of the Job:

To provide a sustainable statistical support service to both the Secretariat and Member States through continuous improvements in procedures for data collection, compilation, processing and dissemination, with an objective of monitoring the attainment of the SACU Objectives.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

* Establish a statistical data processing, modelling and management system on the key macroeconomic aggregates and SACU trade statistics
* Provide information and technical guidance to Member States on the collection and collation of trade and economic data
* Conduct background research, prepare documentation for and organise and service technical meetings and training courses in statistical related fields
* Provide policy and related advice to SACU institutions as well as technical support to the Technical Liaison Committee
* Assist in the formulation and implementation of regional statistical programmes to facilitate the monitoring and achievement of the SACU
* Assist in conducting analytical and methodological studies and other work to assist Member countries to better evaluate the impact of policies and monitor progress towards achievement of the SACU Objectives
* Monitor developments or revisions of standards for statistical concepts, definitions and classifications and assist Member States in their application

Qualifications

Educational Qualifications Required:

Post graduate Degree in Economics or Statistics or Econometrics or equivalent post graduate qualification.

Relevant Work Experience and competencies Required:

* Minimum 6 years relevant experience in a statistical office or regional organization.
* Computer literate in MS Office, Database, spreadsheet and statistical information management systems.
* Proven track record and experience in the field of economics, statistics and econometrics.
* Proven analytical skills
* Experience in report writing
* Attention to detail
