Strategic Priorities
SACU Council adopted the SACU Strategic Plan for 2022 to 2027 which is underpinned by the following pillars:
Industrialisation is the overarching objective for SACU, and in line with that, a vision on industrialisation has been adopted as follows:
- “To build a diversified, competitive, sustainable and equitable industrial base that supports structural transformation and the economic integration of the SACU region.”
In line with this Vision, priority sectors have been identified for the development of regional value chains. These are: (i) Agro-processing (leather and leather products, meat and meat products, fruits and vegetables, seeds production, fertilisers, agro chemicals); (ii) Pharmaceuticals and Chemicals (including cosmetics and essential oils); and (iii) Textiles and Clothing. In addition, SACU is developing regional investment and export promotion strategies. Based on these and the development of the regional value chains the region will leverage its participation in the AfCFTA. The implementation of the above-mentioned priorities will be key to deepening regional economic progress and integration.
